In 2007, Black Thursday was honored to be a Top 50 Finalist in the Comic Book Challenge, a national contest by Platinum Studios searching for promising comic book and graphic novel concepts.
The Black Thursday concept was chosen from over 900 entries for this honor. That summer the Top 50 Contestants assembled at Comic-Con in San Diego to pitch their ideas to a panel consisting of:
- John Williams, Executive Producer of the Shrek movie franchise
- Scott Rosenberg, head of Platinum Studios
- Donald Faison, actor and comic book fan
- D.J. Coffman, winner of CBC 2006
Black Thursday was not chosen as a Finalist, but Navin and Chris were encouraged by the recognition and continue to work on the script and first chapter of the graphic novel.
